January 15th, 2009

Evey night we have the same bedtime ritual with the kids. They get dressed for bed, brush their teeth, and pick out a book. We then get some milk, read the book, and they get to watch a few minutes of one of their favorite shows to wind down for the night. After about 10 minutes of that, Nick always takes them to bed and prays with them before laying them down for the night. Well, tonight, Aiden decided that he wanted me to pray with him instead. I felt a little torn about the whole ordeal. This is "daddy's" time. I really love how involved Nick is with the kids, and I think it is special the little rituals he has with them. But, on the other hand, I want to pray with them too. So, I took on the task of praying for tonight. When I went into Aiden's room he told me that he wanted to pray. He normally doesnt pray that often, so I was very anxious to hear what he had to pray about tonight. The words he spoke just melted my heart. I know that God must be really touched to hear the words that come straight from a child's mouth, to hear what they desire. Here are some bits and pieces of Aiden's prayer tonight that I want to be sure to remember:

Dear God,

Sorry that I disobey, its just so hard to obey sometimes.

Thank you for all of the food that you give to us.

God, please help me to not get booboos, it hurts so much when I fall and I dont like it when I get booboos.

(This tiny scratch on his finger must hurt terribly, because he has told us at least a million times how much it hurts and for us not to wipe it or touch it!)

God, please make MawMaw and Grandma Berta's dinosaur booboos go away too, they dont like to get booboos either.

Help me sleep good tonight and to not have bad dreams.

Amen

Fat Burning Monday

One of my goals for 2009 is to become a healthier person. One of the areas I have struggled in for a long time is my weight. When I was young, I was very active and very skinny. It amazes me now that I look back and remember that when I weighed 115 pounds, I thought I was fat. What a joke!
I have tried so many ways to loose weight, and still I am not even close to my goal weight. In fact, I am heavier then I have ever been. So, last Monday I decided was my start to a new and better me. I am not taking any "magic" diet pill or following any kind of "fancy" diet. I am just committing myself to make healthier choices with my food and try to exercise 5 days per week. I made a mini goal of trying to loose 3 pounds per week. I know that the recommendation is about 1 pound per week, but I have a lot to loose. I will not beat myself up about it if I don't reach this goal each week, but I will also not be disappointed if I lost more!!!
On Monday, I started "My Diet". I felt like I made better choices with food. I didn't reach for the sweets 5 times a day like I normally do, although over the weekend I did eat 1 ding dong (what's a girl to do!) I took the sugar out of my tea. This one is hard for me, I LOVE sweet tea. I, by myself, will drink a gallon of sweet tea in 1-2 days. Now, I am adding a Splenda or Sweet N Low to my glass. No seconds on my plate was another hard one. I tend to eat until I am stuffed to the brim, not just satisfied. A couple times I even found that I had half of my food left and I pushed it away. I feel like these were all small changes. I still took my some out to pizza one day on our "date", instead of filling up on pizza, I ate a salad, and 1 slice of his personal pizza. I also still ate what my family was eating. With many diets, I would give up because I had to feed my family, and then I was stuck eating something bland and different. I ate what they ate and just watched my portions. On nights when it was a little higher calorie meal, I filled my plate half full of salad.

So...after all of this ranting, what do I have to show for 1 week of "My Diet"? This morning the scale was down 3 pounds!!! Can you believe it!!!! I met my goal for the week and am on to a better me!

January 10th, 2008

We had a really good week this week. On Monday, Aiden started gymnastics class. He is so active and always trying to do cart wheels and flips, so we thought this would be perfect for him. He was really shy and did not want to participate until the very end. Hopefully, he will do better next week now that he knows how things work. Both kids started back to Mother's Day Out this week. They always have a blast and learn so much!!!

We had scrapbooking with the church today at our house, here are a few of the pages I got finished today:
